Clever Woman Creates IT Support Ticketing System After Her Family Constantly Asks Her to Help for Free

A young lady got so tired of her family always asking her for tech help that she made a helpdesk for them! Her family thinks she’s being mean and not helpful. She believes she’s saving her precious time.

She’s good at computers

The woman is 24 and is currently studying computer science. She’s also got an internship at a company which seems to be going well.

The young woman is, therefore, quite tech-savvy, and as such, her family relies on her for everything related to IT and tech.

Her family doesn’t understand tech

“My family is B.I.G. I live with my mom, my little brother, 2 of my aunts, and their kids. The kids are lazy when it comes to tech because they know I’ll do it for them, but my mom and aunts are beyond tech illiterate. They’re tech morons,” the woman said.

She feels like she helps with everything

The woman feels that she constantly has to help her family members, and it’s taking time away from her studies. They ask her for little things like their Disney Plus profile pins, and email password resets.

They don’t even try

“I actually set up a cloud password manager for them that they do not use because they always forget that it is an option,” she said.

A few weeks ago, one of her cousins wanted her to help him with a password reset after he got locked out of Google. The cousin demanded the woman help him straightaway, to which she replied, “do I look like TS to you?” The cousin said, “yes.”

So she decided that if she were going to help her family with tech support, they’d need to go through her ‘helpdesk.’

The family has to submit a ticket

“I told my family that if they wanted any help from me, they should go to the website and submit a ticket for my help. My aunt said I was being ridiculous, but I was deadly serious,” the woman explained.

She stood her ground

Saying No

In the following days, the woman wouldn’t answer any tech questions and simply directed her family members to the website. She told them she would email them the solution once she received a ticket for the request.

“Forgot your mail password? Too bad, use someone else’s mail. Is Fortnite lagging? Get a ticket and wait till I’m home. That helped me a lot,” the woman said.

Her family wanted it to stop

But one day, the woman came back from university, and her entire family was in the living room and told her to sit down.

“They were doing an INTERVENTION on me!” the woman exclaimed.

They didn’t think she was being reasonable

The family thought the young woman was rude and unhelpful, even condescending.

Her mother thinks she’s being disrespectful and treating her family like family.

No, she said. “I’m treating them like customers.”

The family argued

“The discussion got heated and turned into a screaming match. I said I would move in with my ex-stepfather because he doesn’t ask me to do anything. I’m still with my family, but I feel like everyone hates me now, but my ex-stepfather says I’m on my right to be annoyed by them,” the woman said.

Was she wrong for what she did?

So she reached out for advice. Was she wrong for making her family submit tickets, or should she have been more helpful?

People responded

One user said, “Ok, this is BRILLIANT. If it were once or twice in a while, I’d say you were wrong. This consistently with no respect for your time? Not only NTA but genius.”

Another one said, “Next, start a knowledge base. I also like the idea of monthly reporting. “Auntie G got locked out of her eHarmony account six times last month.”
