The startling claims have emerged on the back of the U.K.’s inquiry into the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Cummings, who parted ways with Johnson in 2020 and has since expressed his ongoing disapproval of his former employer, submitted a 115-page document as part of the ongoing investigation into the country’s pandemic response.

He detailed that Johnson had once “circulated a video of a guy blowing a special hair dryer up his nose ‘to kill COVID’.” According to Cummings, the video, which was shared among top advisers and officials through WhatsApp, has been taken down from YouTube.

In his statement, Cummings claimed that Johnson subsequently inquired with Chief Scientific Adviser Patrick Vallance and Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty “what they thought.”

The myth debunked

The so-called myth suggested that hot air from a sauna or hair dryer would kill COVID-19, a claim that was later debunked by pennlive.com.

Experts speak out

The publication spoke to Dr. Nirmal Joshi, the system chief medical officer with Mount Nittany Health who said, “At that point in time, blowing air into your nose is simply not going to make a difference. The key is to prevent the virus from getting into your body in the first place.”

The inquiry continues

Commenters flocked to have their say, with one person stating, “Just imagine being that scientist asked something as ridiculous as that by the Prime Minister of a supposedly first world nation.”

People are comparing him to Trump

Another person noted how Johnson was no different to Trump, saying, “In America, you had Trump saying to inject bleach. In the UK Boris saying to put a hairdryer up your nose! It’s almost impossible to even fathom.”

People thought it was a joke

Commenters couldn’t believe that this had actually happened: “It’s like a comedy sketch! Except it’s really a tragedy as it’s real life!” Another person chimed in, stating, “Surely this is a parody, how did people have trust in this joke?”

Unable to run the country

The news amplified people’s feelings about Boris Johnson’s ability to be Prime Minister, writing, “Brilliant. And he was the brains of the operation. Great we had our top boys on the job.” And another commenter said, “Why does this not surprise me. The intelligence of Trump with a posh boy accent.”

Some weren’t even surprised

One person simply stated, “I wasn’t even shocked by that. Boris has always been a “paper over the cracks” kinda person. Of course, he’d go through the entire gamut of hokey cure advice he saw on the internet before he listened to any of his actual advisors.”

Imagine the consequences

Someone questioned what would have happened if the former Prime Minister had made the myth official advice, writing, “Ok. Just imagine if Bojo got the “OK” to try this and ordered us ‘normal people’ to do this during one of his teatime speeches. There’d be hundreds or thousands of people walking around with portable hairdryers bunged up their noses.”

Some questioned the experts

A reader noted that the amount of misinformation during COVID was rife, stating, “Those same ‘scientists’ recommended wearing cloth masks, closing schools, and subjecting children to an untested medical experiment.”
