He Received A Massive 6-Figure Pay Out From His Dead Brother’s Insurance Policy, But When His Sister-in-Law Asked for Some of the Money, He Say No

This man told a story of how he received a massive payment from his dead brother’s life insurance policy. Now his family is calling him a jerk for not giving the money to his brother’s widow. Let’s see what he has to say about this one.

He was the favorite child

“I lost my brother, ‘Jay,’ in a car accident a few months ago,” shared the man. Jay was the golden child of the family.

Jay got a full ride to a prestigious college, while this man had to pay his own way through school. Jay then went on to grad school.

All that education and hard work paid off. Jay landed a great job after graduating and was earning some serious money. “Jay always made good money,” said the man.

He struggled financially

But this man didn’t. Instead, he and his wife lived paycheck to paycheck.

Jay got married

Jay’s financial situation improved even more after he got married. “He married Mary in 2019. She also made good money. It was never an issue for them,” shared the man.

Jay and his wife had the perfect life, and had twin girls a year ago. Then tragedy struck. Jay was involved in a fatal car accident.

He was named on the policy

A few months after Jay’s death, this brother got a call from the insurance company. He was the named person on one of Jay’s life insurance policies. It was worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

He kept all of it

Jay had set up the policy years before marrying Mary and had obviously never changed it. So as far as this man was concerned, Jay wanted his brother to have the money. So he kept it.

That’s when all the trouble started. “Mary begged me to give her a portion of the money,” said the man. But he said no.

His widow needed help

“She inherited his part of their house and their joint savings account, which is about 50k,” shared the man. But she’s telling him that’s not enough. Unless he helps her, she may have to sell the house to survive and put her kids through college.

It wasn’t his problem

But this man refuses to be guilt-tripped. And he has no intention of giving her any of the money. “I told her it’s not my fault,” he explained. “If he wanted to change the beneficiary, he should have done that. But he didn’t, so now the money is mine.”

They made plans

He also has plans for the money. He wants to use it to build a better life. “My wife and I plan to use the money to buy a home and finally start a family,” he said.

They called him out

Now his parents are getting involved. They called him a jerk for not giving the money to Mary, his brother’s widow.

He made an offer

“I offered to take 50k and put it in a trust for his girls’ education,” he said. But Mary said she needs all the money, and she needs it right now. The man’s parents agree. But his response to that is simple: “What about my wife and future family?”

The internet shared its thoughts

“You are being a jerk,” posted one person. “That money should absolutely be going to support his children. The only reason it isn’t is likely because he hadn’t gotten around to it yet. Your family is YOUR responsibility to fund, not your brother’s responsibility.”

“Agreed,” reads another comment. “You’re dancing on the grave of your brother because you made different decisions than him, and he was more successful. You’re here to gloat, not get advice. Good for you for stealing from 2 kids and a widow. I hope you’re happy for the rest of your life with your ill-gotten funds.”
