He Took In His Daughter-In-Law After His Son Died But Now He’s Considering Evicting Her for Bringing Home Too Many Men

A dad who lost his son questioned if it was fair to kick out his former daughter-in-law because she kept bringing lots of different men home. Here’s what he had to say:

The Father Helped His Family

“When my son Derrick passed away, I took in his ex-wife and my grandson because she had been living off of spousal support and child support payments. When he died, she was left with nothing. He didn’t even have life insurance. His savings amounted to about $5,000,” the dad said.

The man kindly offered his ex-daughter-in-law and his grandson his own home as a temporary solution until his son’s ex-wife could finish her education and find a job to support herself and her son.

The ex-daughter-in-law and his grandson have been living with the man for the past two years. During this time, the man has been very discreet about his love life, even within his own home, for fear of making the living arrangements awkward

He said, “I either spend time at my girlfriend’s house, or we go away for the weekend.”

However, when the daughter-in-law completed her schooling and found a job as an LPN, she began dating multiple men and bringing them back to his home. The man was uncomfortable with this situation and expressed his concerns to her.

“I don’t want her bringing home random guys she wants to sleep with, not into my house. I talked to her about it, and she said it’s not my business, and I agree. So I have asked her to move out at the end of this school year,” the homeowner said.

She Reacted Badly

The daughter-in-law accused the man of being a jerk and judging her life choices. The man insists that he is not judging her romantic choices. He just wants his house to be free of random men and to regain his privacy after so long.

The ex-father-in-law is now seeking advice online on whether he was wrong for kicking his ex-daughter-in-law out of his home for bringing dates over. He is questioning whether his actions were justified or if he is being judgmental and unfair.

People Responded

“NTA. You are giving her three months’ notice to move out because she is bringing home guys she wants to sleep with. There is nothing wrong with her actions. As you said, she is an adult. But you don’t have to pass up the peaceful enjoyment of your home to make her happy.”

Another person commented, “Based on her response, she is treating him like she owns half of the house. Well, she doesn’t. It looks like she doesn’t even pay rent. There are no circumstances in which a guest, even a long-term guest, can bring hookups to the host’s house.”
