Her Brother Blocked Her ‘Problematic’ Boyfriend From Moving In And Now He’s Being Accused of Being Too Controlling

A man faced a lot of criticism after he tried to stop his sister’s problematic boyfriend from moving in with her and her children. Here’s what he had to say about the situation:

The man deeply admired his oldest sister, who is the oldest among their mother’s nine children.

Despite facing numerous hardships in her life, he has seen that she has remained kindhearted and generous, and he respects her for this.

In 2016, the man and two of his brothers bought a small house for their sister, which they renovated into her dream home. She currently lives there with her youngest children and the man’s autistic brother.

The sister has been dating her boyfriend for about ten months, and none of their family members approve of him.

“He is an old friend of one of our brothers who OD’d and died almost a decade ago. This man is also an addict, spent time in prison, and is a deadbeat dad to his daughters,” the man said.

The man and his siblings worry about the boyfriend’s presence in his sister’s life because he could cause her to relapse. She’s been sober for ten years but has a history of dating abusive men.

“Most importantly, I don’t want him around my niece and nephew or her grandkids,” the man said.

Recently, the sister informed her brother that her boyfriend was planning to move in with her due to being evicted from his own apartment.

The brother instinctively advised against it, worried about his sister’s well-being.

After being brushed off, he discussed the situation with his siblings who co-own the house.

They all agreed to support the man’s decision to ban the boyfriend from moving in.

When he told his sister her boyfriend couldn’t move in, she accused the man of overstepping and meddling in her life.

He explained his reasons, stating that he was protecting her and her children.

“She asked me how I would stop her from moving him in, and I threatened that I would call CPS and tell them she was allowing an addict to live with her children,” he said.

To make sure the man didn’t move in, the man and his cousin went to the boyfriend’s usual drinking spot and told him that he wouldn’t be moving in.

Later, a different sister called the man to scold him for banning the woman’s boyfriend from moving in. She accused him and his brothers of using their good deeds as a means to control their older sister’s life.

“She thinks me and my brothers are idiots for using something nice we did for her as a tool now to interfere with her life,” he said.

Did he do the right thing?

The man explains that the other sister has only met the boyfriend once, whereas the brothers have known him for years and know what he’s actually like.

The man then wondered if he and his brothers were in the wrong for intervening in their sister’s life, so he asked the internet for advice.

One user said, “You own the house and decide who can live there. You’re not stopping her from seeing this person. You just don’t want him to live in your house. If she doesn’t like that, she’s free to find other accommodations and live with him there.”

Another user said, “Bringing any guy to move in with her two children after she’s only been dating him for ten months is a mistake. That he is a known addict makes him dangerous to the kids. When the relationship goes to hell, it’ll be on you to get him out because it’s your house.”
