Her Ex Spent Six Months Pestering Her to Go to Church With Him, but When She Finally Snapped and Publicly Bawled Him Out, She Was Branded Harsh

A woman recently went online to ask if she’d been too harsh in cutting off all contact with a friend who had spent months asking her to go to church with him. Here’s her story.

“I have a friend who recently found God,” the 28-year-old began. “We dated a couple of years ago, but I don’t think he’s still interested.”

She was cool with it

“When he first told me, I was okay with it, and I answered some of his questions about my beliefs (both of my grandfathers are vicars, so I grew up around the church).”

She asked him to stop

But the woman explained that she’d had to ask her friend to stop asking so many questions as she didn’t know where she stood on a lot of issues, and besides, she was going through a lot of other stuff.

However, her friend wouldn’t take no for an answer and kept asking her questions. Not only that, but he also began pestering her to go to church with him.

She stood her ground

The woman said she wouldn’t be going to church with him. She liked the aesthetics of old church buildings, but she didn’t like churches as a place of worship and had no interest in attending one.

It went on and on

This continued for six long months. The woman’s friend would ask her every single week if she wanted to go to church. Every time she refused, he would demand to know why and promise her that it would be fun.

No means no

The woman stood firm in her refusal and said that her “no” was enough; she didn’t owe him an explanation.

She had also suggested that the man ask other mutual friends of theirs whom she knew believed in God, but as far as she knew, he hadn’t asked any of them.

He pushed it too far

The previous day had been the final straw. The woman and the man had met up with a larger group of friends for food.

During the meal, the woman’s friend had asked her to go to church no fewer than 11 times and repeatedly asked her to explain her 11 refusals.

She couldn’t take it anymore

Eventually, the woman snapped and yelled at him in the middle of the street. She then stormed off and proceeded to block him on social media, delete him from group chats, and inform their friends that she wouldn’t attend anything he was at.

She got petty

The woman also entered his personal contact details into various websites so that he’d start getting spam marketing calls from insurance companies, etc.

It was a potentially delicate situation

Half the woman’s friends supported her stance, but the other half thought she was being too harsh, especially as the man had suffered mental health problems that required him to spend time in a psychiatric hospital.

Was she right or wrong?

She asked the online community which half of her friendship group was right.

The internet responded

“Simply put, this is harassment,” said one. “Too many people think they can hide behind the ‘morality’ of the church to get away with this sort of behavior. Going to church does not make you a good person.”

“No is a complete sentence,” pointed out another.
