Her Grandmother Left Her Everything She Had in Her Will, but Just Hours After the Funeral, Her Estranged Brother’s Girlfriend Was Circling Like a Vulture

A woman recently shared a story online about how her grandmother made her the sole benefactor of the will. Soon, she received a message from her estranged brother’s girlfriend demanding a cut for her son. Here’s what she had to say on the matter.

The woman wrote, “My grandmother recently passed away, and I was the sole benefactor of her will. She wasn’t a rich woman, but she was comfortable enough, and she left me her house, car, and savings.”

“My father is her only child, but he’d made it clear when the will was being written up that he didn’t want anything and so to give it to me, which she did,” she added.

The woman has an older brother. The family disowned him for various destructive behaviors, such as stealing from relatives.

When the woman last saw her brother, he had a one-year-old son with his girlfriend. However, they weren’t around much and rarely expressed interest in connecting with the family.

The day after his grandmother’s funeral, the woman received a message on social media. It was from her brother’s girlfriend.

Sickly sweet

The message was sickly sweet and overly familiar. Soon, the facade faded, and she got straight to the point: she wanted to know when the will would be read.

Why the sudden interest?

The woman asked her brother’s girlfriend why she was interested in the will. She replied that she wanted to know what share of the inheritance her son could expect.

Furious reaction

The woman saw red. She was furious that her brother’s girlfriend had dared ask. She told her there was nothing in the will for her son and that it had already been read as part of the funeral arrangements.

Her brother’s girlfriend demanded to know why her son had received nothing. The woman replied that they had not been around for five years and that her brother had been disowned.

Demanding a split

Nevertheless, she demanded that the woman split her inheritance with her son. She claimed it was the woman’s responsibility as an aunt. The woman hung up the phone.

From there, her brother’s girlfriend posted online about how the woman had “stolen her son’s future” and “taken food from his mouth.” While the woman felt terrible, she was unprepared to split the inheritance.

Was she in the right?

The woman was torn. She didn’t write the will; if the grandmother wanted the nephew to split the inheritance, she would have dictated that. She wrote to an online forum to ask for some additional thoughts on the matter.

One commenter said, “If you wanted to do something nice for him, you could set up a trust in his name that only he will have access to when he’s 18. But it’s up to you. Unfortunately, the sins of the father do sometimes affect the son.”

While another declared, “If your grandma wanted him in the will, he’d be in there. It’s funny how many vultures appear as soon as there’s money involved.”
