Her Mother-In-Law Didn’t Like Her Revealing Wedding Dress so She Secretly Swapped It and Now the Bride Won’t Invite Her to The Wedding

A woman who was about to get married wonders if she made the right choice by uninvited her future mother-in-law from the wedding. She found out that she had tried to ruin her wedding dress and she’s furious. Here’s what she had to say:

They Didn’t Have the Best Relationship

The bride-to-be’s relationship with her future mother-in-law has always been strained, despite the woman’s attempts to build a rapport with her over the four years she has been with her fiancé.

The woman said, “My future MIL has never been a fan of mine for the entire duration of my and my fiancé’s relationship. I’m honestly not sure why she’s always disliked me and been cold to me, but after multiple attempts over the years to build some relationship with her, nothing has worked.”

But the Mil Wanted to Be Part of The Wedding Planning

Despite not contributing financially, the mother-in-law’s disinterest in the woman changed when wedding planning commenced.

The mother-in-law began offering unsolicited opinions on various aspects of the wedding, such as theme colors, menu items, and seating arrangements.

They tried to shut down the suggestions politely; however, in an attempt to at least include the mother-in-law in some part of the planning process, the woman invited her to join in wedding dress shopping.

So They Went Shopping for A Dress

While dress shopping with her mother, close friends, and mother-in-law, the woman found her dream wedding dress. Although it was somewhat revealing, she felt gorgeous in it and confident in her choice.

“My MIL, on the other hand, HATED the dress I chose. She made sure to express that to me multiple times. She even went as far as to say that it was a wedding, not a strip club and that she disliked the dress. Well, I bought the dress anyway since I’m the one paying for it,” the woman said.

Then She Found out The Mil Did Something Terrible

Later, the woman received a call from the shop where she had ordered the dress. The sales associate informed her that a woman, her mother-in-law, had called pretending to be her and had requested to switch the dress to a more appropriate one.

The sales associate realized something was amiss when the phone number didn’t match and called the bride-to-be to confirm before making any changes.

The woman said, “I was LIVID. My fiancé heard the entire conversation and was LIVID as well. He called his mom to confront her, and she confessed after denying it a few times. I told her if she’s so bothered by my dress, she should consider herself uninvited from the wedding and hung up on her.”

The mother-in-law has since been trying to defend herself, but the woman has had enough, but she feels guilty that her fiancé won’t get to have his planned dance with his mother at the wedding, leading her to question, “Did I take it too far?”

The Woman Reached out To the Internet For Advice

“I would have done the same thing. But you and your fiancé need to be in lockstep on this. So if he is/starts hedging- don’t go through with the wedding until you are both on the same page. You need to get these boundaries in place now because MIL will be a nightmare if you have kids if you don’t,” one person wrote.

A second user said, “You must call all your vendors and password-protect your orders. It is, unfortunately, common, so they shouldn’t be surprised. But do it now in case she decides to retaliate.”
