His Pregnant Daughter Shamelessly Manipulated Him into Letting Her Workshy Boyfriend Move In, but His Ex-Wife Told Him He Had No Right to Be Angry

A man recently wrote to an online forum to ask for advice. His daughter lives with him, but when she hid her pregnancy so she could later manipulate him into letting her boyfriend live with them rent-free, he went nuts.

The man wrote, “My 20-year-old daughter lives with me. She has a boyfriend, Gary (also 20), who currently lives with his parents.”

“She lost her job during COVID and has felt too sad since then to look for a new one,” he added. “I’m not sure if Gary has ever worked, but he doesn’t now. Mostly he just sits around my house, playing XBox and eating my food.”

Not a fan

The man is not Gary’s biggest fan. However, he tolerates him because his daughter loves him.

One day, his daughter went missing for about three days. His daughter did that from time to time, but not usually for that long.

Ringing around

He called his ex-wife, Gary, and a few of his daughter’s friends. None of them had seen her. Not long after, however, Gary sent him a text.

Congratulations

The man read Gary’s text. It was a photo of a baby and a message of congratulations about becoming a grandfather. His daughter had managed to hide the pregnancy from both him and his ex-wife!

Obvious in retrospect

The man thought back. He had noticed she’d gained some weight over the last few months. However, she was a plus-sized girl, so he’d reasoned it was just from too much food and not enough exercise.

Returning home

When the man got home from work, Gary, his daughter, and the new baby were there. He asked her why she’d kept her pregnancy a secret from him.

Careful plan

His daughter said that, as they now had a baby, she wanted Gary to live with them. She told her father that if she’d asked before the baby was born, she was sure he would’ve said no. She told him that he would be a monster if he refused.

Furious response

The man was livid. He told his daughter that she had been unbelievably manipulative. He also said that he needed time to think about whether Gary could live with them.

Angry call

His ex-wife called him. She said that he should let Gary move into the home and that he’d regret it if he didn’t. She also told him that he had no right to be so angry.

Was he right?

The man knew that his daughter had tried to play him like a fiddle, and he didn’t like it. He reached out to an online forum to ask if his feelings were justified.

The internet responded

One poster said, “Wow. Just wow. It’s not often that people admit their manipulation right to your face like that. Wait until you find out they were trying for the baby, and it wasn’t an accident, because I’d bet money that’s coming.”

While another commented, “Don’t let him move in. Allow visitation. This will allow him to see his kid, but light a fire under them to get them out of your house. No overnights.”
