His Sister Stopped His Husband From Joining in Her Wedding Photos, So When They Made A Decision to Leave The Wedding Early, She Was Dumbfounded

Last Saturday, this man’s sister got married, so both he and his husband attended the wedding. The evening started off wonderfully until an unexpected problem arose during the picture-taking session. Here’s why.

The Picture Dilemma

The wedding itself turned out to be a lovely one. After the ceremony, his sister, Anne, wanted a picture with the five of her siblings and their partners. She had a specific plan in mind, wanting to arrange the couples in an alternating man-woman pattern for the photo.

Anne Disapproved of the Arrangement

When Anne noticed that he and his husband, Mark, were standing next to each other in the picture, she expressed her disapproval by shaking her head. She believed Mark “ruined the aesthetic” because they were both men, and her original idea was to have one man and one woman side by side.

At that point, his youngest sister, who didn’t have a partner, offered a solution by standing between him and his husband. This way, they could still be close, and Anne’s wish for her picture could be respected.

He thought it was a great solution. “I think that the idea my younger sister proposed was very reasonable,” he said. However, Anne disagreed with the proposed solution and insisted that his husband should leave the picture. Being introverted and conflict-avoidant, his husband complied without any fuss, but it was obvious he felt hurt and disappointed to be excluded.

He Was Angry at His Sister

Although he understood his sister’s desire for a specific look in her wedding photos, that didn’t stop him from feeling angry about how his husband was treated.  Especially knowing that his husband was peaceful and always avoided confrontations at all costs.

He decided to stand by his husband, and they left the wedding, since their presence wasn’t welcomed. “I congratulated Anne and her husband one last time, but then I said my goodbyes. When I was asked why we were leaving early (especially before taking the pictures), I said that I didn’t feel like our presence was wanted,” he said. He had to take his husband to his favorite restaurant to cheer him up.

His Family Members Criticized Him

Some of their family members, except for his youngest sister, supported Anne and thought their decision to leave the wedding early was outrageous. They believed he should have ignored the situation and stayed to avoid causing any trouble.

Later on, Anne texted him, calling him overdramatic, and said he made a fuss over nothing. She felt he should have endured instead of ruining her big day.

He Wished His Family Was Understanding

As a gay couple in a primarily white family, he couldn’t help but feel the impact of his family’s traditional expectations on his sister’s big day. While he understood his sister’s vision, he also wished for understanding and acceptance of who they were.

People Had This to Say

One person commented, “Anne is homophobic and needs to be called out on it in front of your family.”

Another person said, “If she wanted pictures with just her siblings—fine. But to allow every other spouse but exclude your husband—that’s extremely rude. She needs to apologize to your husband and to you.”
