No Kids Allowed: She Won’t Invite Her Sister-In-Law’s Son to Her Wedding And Now She’s Furious

A woman recently asked the internet if she was wrong for telling her sister-in-law that her son couldn’t attend their wedding celebration. The sister-in-law thought her 3-year-old nephew should be an exception. Here’s what she had to say.

She has a rule for her wedding

“My fiancée and I are getting married in July. We have expressed to all our guests that we wish to have an adults-only wedding and asked our guests to please find a babysitter if they have children,” the woman said.

They want it to be a certain way

The couple has several reasons behind this decision. For one, they needed to keep the guest count under 50 to avoid a significant increase in vendor costs. Additionally, they felt that young children could be distracting and preferred not to have them at their wedding.

Some people weren’t happy

Their friends were all understanding and even excited about having a break from their kids for an afternoon. However, the bride-to-be’s sister-in-law was not on board with this plan. She had an unusually close relationship with her 3-year-old son.

The boy can’t be away from his mom

“She has coddled him to the point that he screams if she leaves the room. He has to be with his mom every second, or he gets physically sick. She has that baby attached to her hip so badly that she won’t allow anyone except family members to watch him, and they’re attending my wedding.”

They tried to get an exception

The sister-in-law and her husband, the bride’s brother, tried to guilt-trip the couple into making an exception for their nephew, arguing that their family status made their situation unique.

To make things even more complicated, the sister-in-law and brother managed to get the bride’s mother on their side. She called her daughter to plead their case, but the bride-to-be stood her ground.

She explained that if her sister-in-law brought the child, she wouldn’t be fully present at the wedding and wouldn’t be able to dance with her brother, who was also the best man. She also pointed out that it would be unfair to the other guests if she made an exception.

She’s okay with the decision

The bride-to-be added, “I have accepted that my sister-in-law will not be at my wedding, and by refusing to hire a babysitter, that is the choice she is making.

She wanted to know if she was entitled

I am standing my ground and saying no. It’s my wedding; I paid for the whole thing. I set the date, the location, and the flavor of the cake. If I say no kids, I want no kids, no matter the situation or closeness of the family relationship.”

The woman went online to ask for advice

One internet user posted, “NTA. It’s your special day, and you deserve to keep it just like you planned. Your SIL needs to teach her son not to scream and shout when she’s not there, though; how will he behave in school? Your wedding; your rules.”

Another responded, “I’m of the mindset that you can do whatever you want at your wedding. You just can’t control how people respond.”
