Pregnant Mom Demands Childcare From Her 16 Year Old Daughter, So She Said ‘Bye, I’m Leaving Home”

A teenager shared how her parents didn’t want to look after their newborn baby, and they expected her to do it. She refused, and when they tried to guilt her into it, she threatened to move out. Here’s what she had to say.

The 16-year-old girl is currently an only child. However, that status will change in October when her parents are set to welcome their second child. Her parents only ever planned to have one child, so this came as a shock to everyone.

They couldn’t afford childcare

The reasons for only having one child were mainly tied to the high cost of childcare and her mother’s love for her work. “I think another part of it is they are not very natural parents and are pretty much entirely hands-off. We never do anything as a family, and they are not very involved in my life,” the teen explained.

She eavesdropped on her parents

She overheard her parents discussing the situation. Her mother was vocal about not taking much maternity leave because she wanted to return to work as soon as possible.

“They complained about how much it will cost to get someone to watch the baby while they work and during the summers and stuff. I heard them mention me, and I was like, ‘ohh no,'” she said.

They eventually asked her

Her parents sat her down a week later and proposed a plan that involved her babysitting the newborn for 3-4 hours every night after school until they got home from work. This meant giving up all of her after-school activities and sacrificing her time with friends.

They also suggested she stick around for the next few summers to continue providing childcare, but she refused. “They told me I am going to be a big sister now and that as part of the family, I have responsibilities. I told them THEY had responsibilities as parents, and I am not a parent. I am the child in their house,” she said.

“I said I could just rush to graduation and leave so they can’t use me as free childcare. I don’t think they expected these reactions from me,” she said. She spoke to her guidance counselor and learned that she could graduate at 17 if she kept up her grades, so she planned to do this.

They were disappointed

Her parents accused her of being selfish for not wanting to be involved in her new sibling’s life. “I told them I won’t take care of or raise the baby for them, and I have my own life, and being stuck with a baby is not part of it,” she said.

They tried to guilt-trip her

Her parents warned her that she wouldn’t be a good sister if she did move out. They were adamant that she should be involved in the baby’s life and help them look after it.

She asked the internet for advice

Feeling cornered and unsure, the teen reached out to the internet to ensure she was making the right decision.

The internet responded

One person said, “Tell them that if you wanted a baby at 16, you would have gotten pregnant yourselfand that’s still an option. Watch their reaction.”

Someone else said, “The classic, ‘you’re selfish for not giving up your life whilst I live my best life’ attitude.”
