She Blocked the Spot Where Her Neighbor Parked Her Microcar, but When Her Neighbor Came Knocking to Demand She Move, She Refused

A woman recently went online to ask if she’d been unfair to her older neighbor by refusing to move her car so that the latter could park her microcar. Here’s her story.

Parking was limited

“I live in a boarding house with four parking spots,” the woman began. “Maybe five or six tenants have cars.”

She didn’t always get a spot

“As far as I know, the rule has always been first come, first served. I’ve had to park a few streets away sometimes, but that’s no biggie.”

One spot was tiny

The woman explained that the fourth “spot” isn’t that big; it’s more of a gap between spots with a post at the far end. Only small cars can fit into it.

One of her neighbors, a woman in her late 50s, drives a tiny Toyota Wigo microcar, which slots into the spot perfectly, meaning she always gets that space.

The landlord dumped his pickup

The woman then explained that the landlord of the block was having some work done on his private garage. She’d returned home one day to find his pickup truck parked diagonally across one-and-a-half of the four parking spots.

She had to take up space

The only way the woman could park was to park her own car diagonally across the rest of the spot half taken up by the pickup, and across the small fourth spot.

Her neighbor demanded she move

Later that night, the woman’s neighbor knocked on her door. She asked if it was her sedan parked across the small spot. The woman replied that it was, and her neighbor asked her to move it so that she could park. She said she’d been driving for over an hour and was exhausted.

She refused

The woman said that parking was first come, first served. She also said that she couldn’t park any other way because of how the landlord’s truck was parked.

The woman told her neighbor where there was a good parking spot on the street and went to close the door, but her neighbor put her hand out to stop her from closing the door, which really triggered her.

She got annoyed

Their argument kept going round in circles until, out of sheer annoyance, the woman went and tried to shift her car so that her neighbor had room. But it didn’t work.

Ultimately, the woman refused to give up her parking space. Her neighbor threatened to tell the landlord, and the woman responded, “That’s fine. Now go park somewhere else and leave me alone.”

She asked the internet

Some of the woman’s friends and family thought she could have been kinder to her older neighbor and should have given her the space. She asked the internet for their thoughts.

The internet responded

People supported the woman but also took issue with the landlord. “There’s no assigned parking, and you’re not the one who took up one-and-a-half spots. If anything, the landlord is the one in the wrong.”

“Go after the common enemy,” urged another. “You shouldn’t be fighting each other when your landlord’s the one that’s causing the issue with his giant truck and terrible parking skills.”
