She Had to Park 10 Minutes Away From Her Boyfriend’s Condo When They Got Back From Vacation, but the Next Morning, He Wouldn’t Drive Her Back

A woman recently shared the story online of a disagreement she had with her partner. They decided to stay at his condo, but it has limited parking, so she had to park 10 minutes away. The next morning, he refused to drop her off at her car.

The woman wrote, “My boyfriend and I just got back from a week-long tropical vacation, and our plane landed on Sunday at 1:30 am. By the time we got our luggage, it was 2:30 a.m., and we got to my condo around 3 a.m. via Uber.”

“We decided to drive to his condo because, overall, we are both more comfortable there,” she added. “We arrived around 3:30 a.m.”

No visitor parking

His condo doesn’t have good visitor parking. The closest paid parking is a two-minute drive or a 10-minute walk. When they arrived, no visitor parking was available for her car, so they had to use the paid parking.

Monday morning

Monday morning arrived. She needed to get to her car by 8:30 a.m. to make it to work. It was below freezing outside, so she figured he’d just drive her to her car.

Her boyfriend starts work at midday, so he’s not an early riser. In fact, he’s had trouble sleeping over the years, and he’s not the type of person who can wake up and go back to sleep easily.

The woman told her boyfriend that if the situation were reversed, she’d drive him to his car. But he was unmoved and said he would not disturb his sleep.

She felt that he should have dropped her at her spot. It was only one day, and it’s not her fault that she had to park so far away from his condo.

He told her he would not drop her off at her car. He said that she should respect his sleep schedule. What’s more, he reminded her she was able-bodied and could easily do the 10-minute walk.

Was she in the right?

The woman thought it wasn’t too much to ask her partner to drive her to the car. However, his reaction gave her pause. She wrote to an online forum to ask if she was right to demand a lift, but most people took her partner’s side of the argument.

The internet responded

One poster said, “As someone with a sleep disorder, I would be very annoyed if my partner woke me up early on a work day for something like that. Unless it’s icy and too dangerous to walk (but then maybe it’s too dangerous to drive as well), you can handle a 10-minute walk. Bundle up. It’s not his fault you had to park in the space you did either.”

While another commented, “I would find this overly needy of you on a normal day, but when he’s been up until 4 a.m.?! No way should he have to get four hours of sleep because you don’t want to walk for 10 minutes. Take the world’s shortest Uber if you really can’t deal with a short walk to your car.”
