She Hired Her Friend to Help Clean Her House but Now Her Friends Are Saying It’s Not Appropriate

Recently, a woman took to Reddit to ask if it was okay for her to pay a friend to clean her house. Her friends thought it wasn’t appropriate but she doesn’t see the problem. Here’s what she had to say.

She Has Some Health Issues

The woman, who is 32 years of age, struggles with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, borderline personality disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder.

These conditions often debilitate the woman from doing even the simplest of tasks.

She often finds herself being manic in what she does, cleaning and organizing before promising herself that things will stay that way.

Ultimately, these things never work out. The situations explode, and things become even messier.

She Needs Help with Cleaning

The woman is single and owns her own home. She makes decent money from the job that she works. She just has no desire or motivation to clean.

She recently hired the services of a local home cleaning business that is owned by one of her friends to clean her home two times a week.

This would include doing the laundry, washing the dishes, vacuuming, and mopping around the house, amongst other things.

“She is a pretty good friend of mine and was very grateful as she has just recently started her small cleaning business,” she said.

But Her Friends Got Involved

“However, a mutual friend of ours recently, off-handedly, commented to me about how I’m belittling her by making my friend the “hired help” and that I should ‘grow up and take care of myself.'”

The woman’s friend, the “hired help,” has been incredibly eager and excited and nothing but, to start her work.

As a client to her friend, she is paying her the full rate every week and a generous tip alongside that.

It’s Strictly Business

Nobody is being taken advantage of, and there are no discounts, yet their mutual friend has continued to scoff at the woman, making her feel as though she is using their friend.

The woman has spoken to her friend, the small business owner, about this. Her friend has told her explicitly that she appreciates her custom and friendship.

She emphasized that nothing has changed between them, but the attitude of their mutual friend has caused the woman to truly doubt that.

The woman knows that if using her friend’s business would come between them, she would just hire someone else.

She Wants to Help Her Friend with Her Business

This, however, would make little sense as the woman has the money to pay for her friend’s services, and her friend both wants and appreciates the business that she has.

It is not at all a “bigoted” thing. The woman simply just does not want to clean her home and would rather hire somebody to do it in her stead.

No One Else Seems to Think It’s a Problem

The woman knows that it does not have to be her friend that she hires if it proves to be an issue, but the only problem so far has been with her mutual friend.

But Was She Wrong for Hiring Her Friend?

As such, the woman has asked the internet if it is wrong to hire her friend to clean her home and is wondering whether she should have crossed that boundary.

People Responded

Fortunately for the woman, people understand the situation and feel she has done nothing wrong.

“Your friend is providing a service, and you are paying her for the same,” said one person.

“You are not asking for a free ride. Your mutual friend is interesting. Does this person also belittle your issues?”

A tired airplane passenger recently shared his experience of a mother requesting him to vacate an empty seat next to him. Why? She wanted the man seated next to her to shift so that her baby could have a full seat:
