She Received a Mistaken Wedding Invite for Her Teen Son, but When It Was Retracted, She Made a Bold Move that Split the Family

This lady’s younger brother and his wife were getting married soon. In the course of sending out their wedding invitations, her 16-year-old son was invited by mistake, and the invitation was later taken away. Here’s how the unhappy mom reacted.

The Wedding Planning

Her younger brother and his wife were getting married and had already started sending out wedding invitations. “The invitations include “tickets” to the wedding along with the dress code and a semi-letter letting the attendees know this is a child-free wedding along with a few other formalities or rules, whatever they want to call them,” she said.

The woman understood that since it wasn’t her wedding, she didn’t get to decide the rules. She also thought it was fine because her own child was 16 years old. She’s a single mom, so having a night out without her kid wasn’t new or worrying for her.

They Invited Her Son

However, there was a problem when the invitations came. They included two tickets. The woman thought her teenage son could come since he wasn’t a small child anymore. But later, they found out that the “no kids” rule meant nobody under 18 could come.

The Couple Made a Mistake

During a family dinner, her son talked about being excited for the wedding. But her brother and sister-in-law seemed surprised. Her son’s excitement made them realize they made a mistake by sending two tickets. This led to an awkward talk, and her son was told he couldn’t come anymore in the presence of everyone.

She Respected Their Decision

The woman tried to understand that it was her brother and sister-in-law’s wedding choices. But she couldn’t ignore how her son felt and how they handled it. Her son was hurt because he was really close to his uncle, especially since his real dad wasn’t around.

But, She Was Upset

She was unhappy with the outcome. “Am I confused and a little upset my son isn’t invited to the wedding? Yes, sure. Is that the reason I am debating on not going? NO! My decision to not go is based entirely on their attitude and my son’s current feelings,” she explained.

She Changed Her Mind

Because of how her son was treated, the woman decided not to go to the wedding. Some people said she was being too harsh and immature. But she didn’t care. She made her choice because of how her son felt and how they treated him.

She said she was upset that her son wasn’t invited, but that wasn’t the main reason she wasn’t going. Instead, the woman chose to stand by her son’s feelings. However, she claimed she might change her mind if things got better.

She Was Insulted

Because of her choices, her family members said she acted childish, mean, and unfriendly. But the woman believed things would have been better if it was clear from the beginning that her son wasn’t going to be invited, instead of suddenly taking away his invitation later.

Was she wrong?

The woman reached out to Reddit and asked for advice on the situation.

People Responded

One person said, “What’s with sending tickets? And the name-calling? They don’t sound like pleasant people.”

Another person wrote, “Childfree” to me means no instructions or running around or crying. 16?! I wouldn’t go either, and shame on them for treating your son the way they did.”
