She Refused to Give Her Parking Spot to Her Disabled Neighbor, but When Her Neighbor Parked There Anyway and Refused to Move, She Had Her Towed

There wasn’t enough parking

A woman lived in an apartment block where she paid 30% extra for a parking spot. She wanted the security of being able to park safely near home.

The manager spoke to her

The building manager had recently asked her if she’d consider giving up her space for a disabled woman who was moving in.

She said yes at first

The woman initially agreed, thinking it was just a matter of switching parking spaces.

It wasn’t that simple

However, because the new neighbor had a van with a powered ramp, she needed two parking spaces, which meant the woman giving hers up.

She refused

The woman changed her mind and said no. “I pointed out to him that the parking spot was part of my lease.”

A week later, the woman came home to find a van with disabled plates parked in the spot next to hers. The woman just managed to squeeze her car in, parking as far from it as possible to allow access.

She got an early call

At 7:30 the next morning, the woman received a call. It was the new neighbor asking her to move her car so she could get out. The woman had been asleep and wasn’t pleased, but she moved her car.

This kept happening. “She did the same thing the next three days.”

It was the final straw

The final straw came when the neighbor called at 5:30 on a Saturday morning. The woman said, “I told her that I don’t wake up normally until 8:30 and would appreciate it if she didn’t call before then.”

The neighbor told the woman to stop being difficult and cussed her out. The woman said she didn’t have to come and move her car at all, so she could stop being so rude.

The tables were turned

That evening, when the woman got home, she found the van parked across both spaces. She called her neighbor and asked her to move the van.

She told her to wait

The neighbor laughed and said she’d have to wait. The woman reminded her that she’d always moved her car when asked. What’s more, because the van was parked across her space, she could have it towed.

She said she wouldn’t dare

The neighbor told the woman she wouldn’t dare. The woman said she was serious and gave her neighbor five minutes to move.

She kept her word

The neighbor didn’t show up, so the tow truck was called and the van was towed. The woman soon got a call from her incensed neighbor. She hung up.

The apartment manager got involved

The building manager told the women to compromise. The woman refused, saying, “According to my lease, I’m entitled to a parking spot.”

Was she wrong?

Was the woman wrong to call a tow truck, or had the neighbor overstepped the line?

The internet responded

One person said, “Not your problem. Not your responsibility. The apartment owner/manager has to make sure she is catered to.”

Another person said, “It is not your responsibility to figure this out with her. They asked, and you said no.”
