She Thought They Were Rude for Announcing Their Engagement at Someone Else’s Birthday Party so She Decided to Make Them Feel Awful About It

A couple recently chose to announce their engagement at someone else’s 30th birthday party, leading to an unexpected reaction from a friend who thought they were being inconsiderate. Here’s what happened.

Lia had a big birthday

One of her friends, Lia, was celebrating her 30th birthday. Due to personal reasons, Lia went all out. The venue was terrific, the food was brilliant, the decor was tasteful, the music was great, and the guests were asked to wear something fancy.

Someone interrupted

The evening was going well until… someone dropped to one knee. Everyone knew what was happening. A proposal. At someone else’s 30th birthday!

The woman thought it rude

The woman was giving the couple the side eye but thought that maybe the birthday girl was in on it. Because who would do such a thing without the host’s permission?

Lia didn’t know

So the woman went to find Lia. She was sitting at a table surrounded by friends, looking a bit angry but also sad. “I asked if she knew this was going to happen. She gave a small head shake and said, “well, there’s nothing for me to do right now,” the woman said.

The woman took action

She then decided she was going to do something about the situation.

She approached the couple

She walked up to the happy couple, who, were surrounded by people who were congratulating them. Some people looked awkward and bewildered and didn’t want to get involved in the drama. “Not everyone lost their common sense,” the woman said.

She commented on the ring

She approached the newly engaged woman and asked to see the ring. She was very happy holding out her hand, and then the friend said, “Well, at least the ring is decent.”

The girl didn’t understand

The woman looked shocked and asked what that was supposed to mean. The friend said, “Girl, you got proposed to at someone else’s celebration, which he didn’t plan or pay for. You’re not even worth that much. I’m just glad he didn’t cheapen out on the ring.”

 People were talking

She turned around, walked over to a nearby friend, and began hearing the whispers spread. Someone said, “who does that at someone’s birthday? and “the man can’t even plan an event and had to mooch off someone else?”

Lia was pleased

The couple left quickly afterward, and while the party ended awkwardly, Lia looked happier, and the woman didn’t feel guilty.

Afterward, she heard that the newly engaged woman had complained about her ruined proposal, but no one seemed to care. Supposedly, the proposal was actually her idea, and her boyfriend just went along with it.

She posted the story on the internet

One user said, “I hate public proposals. Doing it at someone else’s birthday party is really bad.”

Another said, “the only less appropriate times I can think of is at someone else’s wedding, engagement party, or, I don’t know, a funeral, I guess. Super tacky and inconsiderate! OPs actions are perfection!”
