She Told Her Roommate’s Boyfriend that She Was a Stripper and Now Her Roommate Is Furious at Her for Telling the Truth

A woman recently wondered if it was bad to tell her roommate’s boyfriend that she worked as a stripper when he asked about her job. Her roommate got really angry when she found out that she had answered honestly without thinking much about it.

“I am 21 and have been a stripper for about a year now. I’m open about it with people; my family knows what I do, and I’m not ashamed of it at all. I was on the verge of being homeless when I started, and now just recently, I was able to pay my rent for a year.”

Her roommates know

She shared an apartment with two roommates who were well aware of her occupation. They’d been curious at first but had always been accepting, as people in their age group usually didn’t care about such things.

Someone came to visit

One day, while cooking dinner in the kitchen, her female roommate, also 21, walked in with her boyfriend, who was visiting for a few days.

He asked about her job

They started preparing their own meal, and everyone exchanged casual chitchat. The boyfriend asked her what she was studying in school, and she replied that she was taking a break to focus on work.

It seemed okay

When he asked what her job was, she told him, “I’m a stripper. He was pretty much like, “Oh cool” and we moved on.” She didn’t think much more about it.

Her roommate was upset

Later that night, she received a text from her roommate, who said she “really didn’t appreciate” her telling the boyfriend about her job, especially while dressed in shorts and a tank top.

She apologized but wasn’t sorry

Confused, she replied that she always wore that kind of outfit around the house and hadn’t even known her roommate’s boyfriend was coming. She apologized for making her roommate uncomfortable but explained that she wasn’t ashamed of her job and didn’t see any reason to hide it.

The roommate accused her

Her roommate responded with, “You should know better than anyone what a male mind is going to imagine when they see a woman wearing revealing clothes who then says she gets naked for money.” She then accused the woman of using her profession to help her seek male attention.

She’s uncomfortable now

“I truly didn’t know how to respond and still don’t, the conversation made me pretty uncomfortable, and I’ve pretty much just tried to stay in my room the past few days. I am aware that the nature of my job is sexual.

She understands

“I know that some men will fetishize me, for lack of a better word. So I do understand why she’d be upset about it. I just don’t think I did anything directly wrong,” she continued.

She could move out

Despite living in an expensive area, the young woman could afford to move out if she wanted to because it was a major city where stripping was popular and regulated, which is how she was able to make such a good living.

Now she’s unsure about it

In addition, they’d all renewed their leases just a month prior. However, the conversation with her other female roommate left her wondering if her profession really was something she should hide.

She asked for advice

One internet user said, “You did NOTHING wrong. She’s the one with the problem. You pay rent to live there. You’re an equal tenant who’s allowed to dress in shorts and a tank top in your own home. You were dressed decently and didn’t know he was coming over anyway.”

Another commented, “I have a friend who started out as a stripper/pole dancer. She paid for college with it. Then her wedding and honeymoon. Her husband wasn’t ashamed.”
