There Was Just One Parking Space in Front of Their Houses, And When She Took It For the Babysitter, Her Neighbor Was Livid

A woman and her husband moved into their new home a year ago and, since arriving, have found that their babysitter was late due to a lack of parking. Despite trying to find a solution, their neighbor has an issue.

The woman is married, and she and her husband have a babysitter, who is 18 years old, that comes to their house once a week.

The babysitter has worked for the couple for over three years. They used to live in an apartment, and things were absolutely fine. She was never late and lived in their building.

Last year, the woman and her husband moved out of their apartment and into a house. From there, suddenly, their babysitter started to show up late.

Their babysitter complained about parking

Whenever they would ask their babysitter about this, she would complain that there was no street parking available. She told them that, half the time, she ended up in a parking lot “seven or eight blocks away.”

“Once she told us where she was parking, my husband would walk her to her car, but it was late, and the weather was never good for that kind of walk on the days when she’s working.”

There’s an issue with the neighbor

To try and help, the woman started to park on the street in front of her house to open up a driveway spot for her babysitter. The problem lies with her neighbor, who usually parks there.

Now, her neighbor has lost his parking spot and has complained about this to the woman, telling her that she shouldn’t park on the street with a spot already available.

She has been called selfish

The woman explained to her neighbor that their street parking was on a first-come, first-served basis. She also told him that she and her husband needed that spot for someone—their babysitter—but the man still accused them of being selfish.

Was she right?

While her husband can understand both sides of this argument, the woman feels that they shouldn’t have to move their cars for someone else. Also, this method means that their young babysitter would not have to walk alone for eight blocks each night.

The internet responded

One person noted, “Your husband is being overly considerate of the neighbor’s demands, when clearly the neighbor holds no such consideration of your needs.”

Another commenter said, “Thank you for being so kind and caring about your babysitter’s well-being.”
