A Woman Scolded a Restaurant for Serving ‘Raw’ Shrimp Because She Thought That Only Breaded Shrimp Was Cooked

A woman recently went to a restaurant with a woman who believed that only breaded shrimp was cooked and that their ‘raw’ grilled shrimp would make them sick. Here’s what she had to say.

She Had an Acquaintance

The woman, who was in her late twenties, knew a woman called Molly, who was related to someone in her friend circle.

“My friend has a cousin, ‘Molly’ (who’s around 30), that she’s close to. I’ve met her a handful of times, and until this incident, I didn’t think one way or another about her.”

However, the woman had noticed that Molly displayed a few peculiar behaviors, but inquiries had confirmed that she wasn’t on the spectrum or had any particular aversions to food.

But the woman was left questioning Molly’s intelligence after an incident that occurred when their group of friends went out for a meal.

Molly Made Demands

The invitation to dine out, extended by Molly’s relative, included a few of their mutual friends. As they placed their orders, Molly made a spectacle of the waitress.

She insisted, in a rather emphatic manner, that she did not want ‘raw’ shrimp with her meal. Instead, she demanded it to be cooked.

To make her point, Molly gestured towards a neighboring table where a person had grilled shrimp and proclaimed, “That’s what I mean; I don’t want raw shrimp. I want it cooked.”

The waitress, who was clearly confused, handled the situation commendably and offered to ask the chef if they could substitute tempura shrimp for the usual grilled shrimp.

They Tried To Explain

The woman explained, “While the waitress was gone, my friend told Molly that both types of shrimp are cooked and not raw; just one type isn’t breaded, just grilled.” However, Molly didn’t seem to understand the different cooking methods.

When the waitress confirmed they could substitute any type of shrimp, their order was made. The woman herself ordered regular shrimp with a side of tempting tempura shrimp.

Their Meal Arrived

Their food arrived, and as they commenced eating, Molly made another comment about their ‘raw’ food, predicting they would all fall sick from food poisoning from eating uncooked seafood.

The woman had reached her tolerance limit. She explained that their food was indeed cooked, and the only difference between Molly’s shrimp and theirs was the presence of breading.

She Proved Her Point

To clarify her point, the woman peeled off the tempura from one of her shrimps, held it next to a grilled shrimp, and announced, “See? They look the same; the food is already cooked; you’re just being willfully ignorant.”

The Atmosphere Was Ruined

Molly, taken aback and visibly offended, excused herself and went to the bathroom.

This dampened the mood of the gathering, and the group soon requested takeaway containers to take home their leftovers and paid the bill.

They Asked Her To Apologize

The woman apologized to her friends for the scene, but the incident lingered and cast a shadow over the previously light-hearted and friendly conversation.

In the following days, Molly’s cousin and another friend urged the woman to apologize to Molly. However, the woman didn’t feel that an apology was necessary.

Should She Apologize?

The woman said, “I don’t think apologizing to her is warranted; it’s one thing to have a hang-up over a food item, but it’s another to keep making comments after you’ve already had something explained to you.”

The woman stood her ground, firm in her belief that her words had been justified. However, unsure of whether she was right to do so, she asked the internet for its opinion.

People Responded

One person wrote, “I think the tipping point is that she was criticizing others’ food that they had ordered. Saying you will get food poisoning is essentially calling your meal gross. I’d have no patience for that kind of behavior.”

Another user agreed, “Molly’s stupidity isn’t even the real issue here. Molly was unpardonably rude. You don’t criticize other people’s food choices, even if you think they’re disgusting.”
